To support gender equality and girls’ education, Rotary Club Peja and the Rotary Club of Stenstorp-Skultorp in Sweden, with the Municipal Assembly of Peja, won a global grant from The Rotary Foundation for the project “Gender Equality and Girls Education in Peja, Kosovo”.
The club awarded 80 scholarships to female university students for the 2019–2020 academic year, and 45 scholarships to girls in secondary school.
The club and the municipality agreed to give priority to fields where Peja needs more professionals: computer science, medicine, tourism and the food industry, as well as other subjects important to the municipality.
The club stays in touch with its scholarship holders. At one meeting they heard from Sarah Olmstead of the Millennium Challenge Corporation, a physicist and economist working on human rights, science and energy efficiency, about life’s ambitions and challenges and how to overcome them. The Mayor of Peja, Gazmend Muhaxheri, joined the conversation.
